Professor Hiroshi Asahara
Department of Systems Biomedicine
Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan
Dr. Hiroshi Asahara graduated from Okayama University School of Medicine, completed clinical training in Orthopedics, and earned a Ph.D. in Orthopedics and molecular biology. He conducted postdoctoral research in the Montminy Lab at Harvard University, focusing on chromatin-mediated gene regulation, and later served as a staff scientist at the Salk Institute. Dr. Asahara established his independent laboratory as a Principal Investigator at Scripps Research, where he continues to lead research in musculoskeletal biology. From 2004 to 2011, he served as Director of the Research Institute at the National Center for Child Health and Development in Tokyo. He currently holds a professorship at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, reorganized in 2024 as the Institute of Science Tokyo (IST), where he leads a laboratory and contributes to education in molecular biology for medical students. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal development, regeneration, and homeostasis.
